FAG Repair Insert Unit from Schaeffler Vehicle Lifetime Solutions guarantees fast wheel bearing replacement in original equipment quality

The complete unit is pre-mounted on the wheel-end and lubricated for life – for efficient, safe mounting and high mileage

New, patented seal design reduces friction which can be quantified in energy saved at each wheel hub up to 38 watts, thus reduces diesel consumption

Schaeffler Vehicle Lifetime Solutions has introduced a new version of its FAG Repair Insert Unit. The pre-assembled unit for wheel bearing repairs on truck, trailer and bus axles enables particularly fast repairs in OE quality, extends maintenance intervals and has a patented sealing cap that helps to reduce diesel consumption and CO2 emissions by reducing friction. The result: higher vehicle availability at lower operating costs.

The FAG Repair Insert Unit can be installed quickly, efficiently, and safely: the complete wheel bearing unit is delivered pre-assembled and sealed. It consists of two tapered roller bearings that are connected by means of a snap ring and are already lubricated for life with the appropriate grease at the factory. This eliminates the risk of the wrong lubricant being used or a contaminated lubricant being used by mistake in the hectic environment of a workshop. At the same time, the optimized preload ensures higher rigidity and service life and also reduces operating noise. All this can be achieved in a very short time with a professional installation in OE quality.

New innovative and patented sealing cap

In addition, the new version of the FAG Repair Insert Unit is the first to feature an innovative, patented sealing cap made of polyamide plastic. While the insert unit previously had a conventional two-lip seal that caused friction due to its design, the new sealing cap is mounted contactless on the outbound bearing. Compared to the previous seal design, this significantly reduces friction, cutting energy consumption by up to 38 watts per wheel hub. For the fleet operator, this means lower diesel consumption – and with it, lower operating costs, and CO2 emissions for the fleet.

“Wheel bearings are subject to natural wear and must be replaced at the first sign of a defect – and in the commercial vehicle sector, this has to be done quickly, because every minute of downtime costs money,” says Samuel Braun, Vice President Commercial Vehicles at Schaeffler Vehicle Lifetime Solutions. “With our new FAG Repair Insert Unit, we are providing distributors and workshops with a solution that ensures long maintenance intervals and operating times as well as efficient repairs in OE quality. And finally, we are contributing to a reduction in fuel consumption.”

The new FAG Repair Insert Unit is compatible with the previous version as well as the FAG Insert Unit and can easily replace both during maintenance. Initially, there are eight-part numbers available for various vehicle applications, including those from DAF, Ford, SAF, Schmitz Cargobull, VDL and Volvo.
